South Tyrol’s most extensive library centre is about to be built
The project for South Tyrol’s most extensive library centre set off in 2004 with a planning competition. The new library centre will comprise the Dr. Friedrich Teßmann Library, the City Library „Cesare Battisti“ and the Italian provincial library „Claudia Augusta“. In the new library building, that will be open for the members of all three linguistic groups, about 1,100,000 media will be stored. The number of expected users amounts to 400,000. The aim however is not only to build a central scientific universal library for South Tyrol but also to create a spacious and modern library, a cultural and educational centre and a meeting place in town for the citizens of Bozen.
Teßmann goes Europeana
The Provincial Library „Dr. Friedrich Teßmann“ participates together with a group of 16 partner institutions from all over Europe in the EU-project „Europeana Newspapers – A Gateway To Newspapers Online“ with the objective to optimise and simplify research in digitised historical newspaper pages.
