Themed exhibition in Reading room - March 2023
Vincent Van Gogh and Paul Gauguin, two extraordinary artists united by a deep love of art and a determined desire to forge a new path in painting, lived together for nine weeks in a small yellow house in Arles in Provence.
During this short and intense, but not entirely conflict-free time, the two painters experimented with a variety of painting styles and subjects between open-air painting and long discussions, inspiring each other. The cohabitation of these two creative geniuses ended tragically, but not without giving the world an artistic work that would otherwise never have existed.
A selection of books about Van Gogh and Gauguin will be on display in the Reading room of the Teßmann Library in the month of march. The books can be requested online or borrowed on site.
