Themed exhibition in the Reading room - September 2025
We realise how important sleep is as soon as we don't get enough of it. But what is sleep and how much of it do humans need? What distinguishes good sleep from bad sleep and how can we promote good sleep? How are sleep and biological rhythms connected? What happens to our bodies and our consciousness when we sleep? And what happens when we dream? These and further questions are answered in the books featured in the current media exhibition on the topic of sleep in the Teßmann Library’s Reading room.
The books can be requested online or taken on loan on site.
Since the atomic bombs were dropped on Hiroshima (6 August 1945) and Nagasaki (9 August 1945), the sword of Damocles in the form of nuclear weapons has been hanging over us all. Added to this are the risks associated with the use of nuclear energy. This book exhibition provides information about the discovery of nuclear fission, the development of the atomic bomb, the extent of the destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the world on the brink of nuclear war (the Cuban Missile Crisis), the risks of a worst-case scenario as exemplified by Chernobyl and Fukushima, geopolitical hotspots and current topics of discussion on the subject.
