The Dr. Friedrich Teßmann Library is a closed access library, i.e. apart from the collections in the reading room (about 9000 reference books and encyclopaedias) all our stocks are placed in two different stack rooms. You get access to our items by requesting them in our online library catalogue.

You can order the single item in our online catalogue by clicking on its title to get to the detailed information. There you click on “Request item”, type in your user id (as indicated on your library card) and your password (initial password is your birthdate in the form DD.MM.YYYY) to sign in. Click on “request item” next to the item once again, choose the pickup location (you can choose the Teßmann library or one of the libraries taking part in the South Tyrolean Interlibrary loan) and click on “request item”. A notice informs you if the request was performed successfully.

The requested item will be sent to the circulation desk within five to ten minutes and is kept on hold for you for ten days. If you indicated an e-mail address in your user account you will receive a notification on the hold status.

Please note that you need your library card to check in items on your user account.

You can borrow at most 20 items. The loan period is 30 days but you can extend the loan period before the item is due if there is no reservation until you reach the maximum loan period of 120 days.
At the circulation desk you will receive a date card to remind you of the due date and of the arising default charges if you will return the book not on time. Six days before the loan period expires, an automatically sent e-mail reminds you of the upcoming due date. In order for this service to work an e-mail address must be specified in your user account. In this regard, please refer to the information desk.

When searching in the online catalogue, underneath the single item you find its actual availability, its location (magazine, reading room, remote magazine) and its call number. By clicking on the title you get to the detailed information where you can check whether the item is already requested or – should it be on loan – when the item is due back.

Categories exempt from loan:
  • Items from the reading room
  • Old and valuable collections (published more than 100 years ago)
  • Audio-visual material (CDs, DVDs, etc.) that have been published less than 18 months ago
  • Publications with loose sheets or inserts
  • Newspapers
  • Periodicals
  • Images

Renewal of the loan period

If you need items beyond the loan period, you can renew it provided that there are no other reader’s requests.
For this purpose use the renewal option in your user account or contact our staff at the circulation desk calling +39 0471 471815.
As long as an item is not requested by another user, you can renew your loan period any time for further 30 days until you reach a maximum loan period of 120 days.
