Themed exhibition in the Reading room - August 2025

Since the atomic bombs were dropped on Hiroshima (6 August 1945) and Nagasaki (9 August 1945), the sword of Damocles in the form of nuclear weapons has been hanging over us all. Added to this are the risks associated with the use of nuclear energy. This book exhibition provides information about the discovery of nuclear fission, the development of the atomic bomb, the extent of the destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the world on the brink of nuclear war (the Cuban Missile Crisis), the risks of a worst-case scenario as exemplified by Chernobyl and Fukushima, geopolitical hotspots and current topics of discussion on the subject.
