Themed exhibition in the Reading room in August 2026

The themed exhibition in August traces the success story of film and cinema which began with the development of the first film cameras at the end of the 19th century, such as the Lumière brothers’ Cinématographe. It continued with the early films of Alice Guy and Georges Méliès, the construction of grand cinemas and the first sound films in the 1920s, through Hollywood, independent and experimental films and multiplex cinemas, right up to today’s online video-on-demand and streaming services to 4D films and digital cinemas.
